How to Make YouTube Videos Faster: 4 Simple Changes That Will Save You Hours

Want to make YouTube videos faster without sacrificing quality?

As a mom of three under five and online business owner, I've cracked the code on creating valuable YouTube content in under an hour from start to finish.

These four simple changes will transform how you approach video creation and help you finally make YouTube sustainable for your busy life.

The Reality Check: You Don't Need Hours to Make Great Videos

Here's the thing - I prepped for this entire video in less than 10 minutes. My baby was literally in their crib, I had no childcare, and I still managed to create, record, and prepare a complete YouTube video. How? By implementing these four game-changing strategies that prioritize speed without compromising value.

If you've been telling yourself you don't have time for YouTube, or you're spending hours on each video only to feel burned out, this approach will change everything for you.

Make YouTube Videos 10X Faster (No Editing Required)

#1: Choose an Intentional Format (That Actually Makes Sense for You)

The biggest mistake I see creators make is thinking they have to stick to one "perfect" format. Instead, I choose my format based on two things: what I'm teaching and what will be fastest for that particular day.

Mix Up Your Formats Based on Your Energy and Content

Sometimes I'm just talking to the camera. Other times I'm drawing on my iPad, sharing my screen, or using simple Canva slides like I did for this video. The key is meeting yourself where you're at in the moment.

Ask yourself: What format will let me get this information across most efficiently today?

Don't get stuck doing things a certain way because you think you're "supposed to" or because that's how you've done it before. Your format should serve you, not stress you out.

Skip the Fancy Stuff (For Now)

I'm not doing b-roll, complicated visuals, or multiple camera angles. While those things can be great, they're not necessary to be successful on YouTube or to use the platform to grow your business and make money.

#2: Make It Ridiculously Easy to Hit Record

This one change alone will save you so much time and mental energy. I have my desk setup so that recording requires zero prep work:

  • One webcam (the same one I use for Zoom calls)

  • One light that sits on my desk with a single button

  • One microphone on a little stand that's always plugged in

  • Everything syncs to my laptop with one cable

That's it.

Your Setup Doesn't Have to Be Perfect

When I first started YouTube in 2017-2018, I was doing the most – moving furniture, setting up three lights, using a DSLR camera. It took hours and was completely unsustainable.

The truth? You can create successful, money-making YouTube videos without all that gear. If you don't have any equipment, you can absolutely use your phone with a tripod in front of a window.

The goal is to eliminate any barriers between you and hitting record.

#3: Record in a Way That Requires Zero Editing

This is where most people get stuck in a time-consuming rabbit hole. I record my videos so they need minimal to no editing – maybe just trimming the beginning and end to remove any awkward pauses.

Tools That Save You From the Editing Trap

  • Loom: Perfect for screen recordings with your face in the corner

  • Ecamm Live: Lets you change what's shown while recording (no post-production needed)

  • OBS: Free software that works like live streaming tools

  • Simple talking head videos: Just you and the camera

The key is choosing tools that let you create dynamic content while recording, not after.

Remember Your Real Goal

You're not trying to become a full-time YouTuber living off AdSense. You're an online business owner using YouTube to connect with people who want to solve problems and achieve goals. You don't need all the bells and whistles to do that effectively.

#4: Let It Be "Bad" (It's Actually Better Than You Think)

This might be the most important tip of all. I'm going to record this entire video in one take, and I'm okay with it not being perfect.

Authentic Beats Perfect Every Time

You'll notice in my videos that I pause, mess with my hair, sometimes look at the wrong camera. There are always things that could be "better." But putting out imperfect content consistently is infinitely better than waiting for perfection.

Here's what I know: What you think is "bad" is probably actually really good. The gap between where you are and where you could be makes everything feel insufficient, but authenticity connects better than perfection anyway.

Give Yourself Permission to Be Human

Let it be okay if it's not the perfect title, thumbnail, description, or delivery. Meet yourself where you are in this season of life. Your intent to serve people and help them accomplish their goals is enough.

Set timers if you need to. Remind yourself "this is enough" when perfectionism creeps in. And remember – you can always change titles, descriptions, and thumbnails later on YouTube.

The Bottom Line: Speed Without Sacrifice

Using these four strategies, I can create a complete YouTube video in under an hour from start to finish, including a simple thumbnail. When you batch content, you could potentially record everything you need in just 2 hours once a month.

The real magic happens when you:

  • Choose formats that work for your current situation

  • Eliminate setup barriers

  • Skip unnecessary editing

  • Embrace "good enough" over perfect

YouTube doesn't have to be this massive time commitment that feels unsustainable. It can be simple, manageable, and incredibly effective for growing your business – even when you're busy, even when you have kids, even when life is chaotic.
