hello,

Want to customize the footer in your ConvertKit emails? This step-by-step tutorial will teach you how to customize the email footer in your ConvertKit email template. Includes a video tutorial!https://meganminns.com/blog/customize-email-footers-convertkit

If you use ConvertKit and haven’t customized the text in your email footer yet, then you need to do this today!

Customizing your email footer is quick and easy to do once you learn how.

That’s why I created this step-by-step tutorial to show you exactly how to change the email footer of your broadcasts in ConvertKit.

How to Customize ConvertKit Email Footers:

Why should you customize the default ConvertKit email footer?

The default email footer in ConvertKit includes the unsubscribe link and your mailing address.

While there is nothing innately wrong with this simplicity, I have found one common issue comes up time and time again:

Subscribers who want to stay on your list, but want to opt-out of a specific series, may accidentally unsubscribe from your entire list.

So, how do we prevent this from happening?

My recommendation is to add text around the unsubscribe link, that explains what will happen when someone clicks that link.

You can see an example of this in my email footer below:

Since you can customize the footer of your emails in each email template, you may want to add important links to some of your footers!

For example, if you have a custom email template for your online course, you may want to include a link to the course log in in the footer of your emails.

Another example, if you’re a software company or have a knowledge base to help your subscribers, you may want to include a link to your knowledge base in the footer of your emails.

You may just want to add social media links to the footer of your emails.

All of it is possible!

So how do you customize your email footer in ConvertKit? Keep reading!

First, you have to create a new email template.

Step 1: Select the Classic or Modern email template.

By default, ConvertKit provides you with three email templates to choose from: Text only, Classic, and Modern.

Select the Classic or Modern template.

Step 2: Copy all of the HTML

ConvertKit prevents you from directly editing the default templates, so we need to copy this HTML to create our own.

Select all of the Template HTML and Copy it.

Step 3: Create a new Email Template

Go back to the Email Templates page and click the button “New Email Template” to create a new email template.

Step 4: Paste the HTML into the new Email Template

Paste the HTML you copied from the Classic or Modern template.

Be sure to name your template and press save!

Now, you can customize the email footer.

ConvertKit email templates have 2 sections:

  1. Style – This section contains all of the style and design settings for your template template. The style setting begins with <style> and ends with </style>.

  2. Message Content – This section contains the actual content of your email, including the footer! This section begins with <div class=”message-content”> and ends with </div>.

Step 5: Customize your email footer

The email footer begins where it says <div class=”footer”> and ends with the first </div> after that.

Anything you put in this section will show up in the footer of your email template.

If you’d like add text around the unsubscribe link, just type whatever words you’d like before and after the unsubscribe link.

Feel free to use the code below from my own email template:

If you choose to <a href="{{ unsubscribe_url }}">Unsubscribe</a>, you'll be removed from all mailings. If you want to opt out of a particular series and don't see a link above to do so, just hit reply and let me know. I'll take care of it for you personally.

If you’d like to add space in between the text in your email footer, insert the code below to create two line breaks:

<br><br>

If you’d like to center the text in your footer, add the code below at the beginning and end of your email footer (see picture):

<center> </center>

Step-9-Shadow.png

If you’d like to add an additional link to your footer, copy the code below and add it into your footer:

<a href=”URL”>Text</a>

Now you know how to customize your email footer in ConvertKit!

You can create custom footers for your regularly scheduled broadcasts, for broadcasts to your students, or even one for your launch emails.
